KAANG - LABELLE & HLASKO

Labelle, producer of Electro music from Reunion Island, and Hlasko, producer and South African singer, nourish both the same curiosity for original music and their connection to the sacred. They also seem to have in common an unusual propensity to capture emotion, music and voice to ask about the unspeakable, impalpable, to dive into a kind of spatio temporal rift between yesterday and tomorrow.

Together they founded Kaang, a group in the form of sound bridge between two "islands": Reunion and Lesotho, a mountainous country in the heart of South Africa. And bridges between these two lands somewhat apart reveal themselves as obvious as the notes of these two poetic souls, both passionate about the culture and music of the Bushmen.

There is something crystalline, aerial, and ethereal in their music. Yet the emotion it generates seems to delve far into us. Before we even. Somewhere in our roots. Somewhere in the background.

In October 2015 LABELLE becomes winner of the 5th edition of the Indian Ocean Music Price before Saodaj finalists' Tritonik and Tibwa. It was offered in 2016 by the Indian Ocean Music Awards and its partners a residence in Train-Theater in Portes-lès-Valence and a tour of the music market (Babel Med Music in Marseille, Atlantic Music Expo Cape Verde, Iomma in Reunion Visa for Music in Morocco) and festivals (France and the Indian ocean area). Past winners: Maya Kamaty (4th edition), Bo Houss (3rd edition), Mami Bastah (2nd edition), Maalesh (1st edition).
